Ready, Respectful, Responsible
Starting school is such a momentous occasion, and we understand what an immense decision it is for you as a family to choose a school. We want to do everything we can to show you all of the things that make us ‘us’ and the many amazing opportunities your child will have if they join our JOY-ous family!
This is, first and foremost, a place where every child is given the support they need to achieve beyond expectations in an environment where our staff go above and beyond to facilitate all learning. Staff and Governors acknowledge how important it is for you to make the right choice for your child starting school; therefore, whether you have just re-located to Whitstable and the surrounding area or live locally and are looking for a school place in the Early Years or other year groups, you are very welcome to view our extensive grounds, excellent facilities and stimulating learning environment.

Year 1 were very excited to attend their Pet Fair today. We met Walter the tortoise, Daisy the dog, Coco and Peter the rabbits, Fudge the Guinea pig, Penny the stick insect, Sniffy the Snail, the goldfish and even Phyllis the duck! This was a wonderful way to kick start our learning about animals as we begin to think about what our 'Perfect Pet' would be next week for our wanted posters. The children were so incredibly kind and considerate to the animals, and we were very proud. Thank you to all our very well-behaved animals too!
Yesterday, we welcomed the Whitstable Royal British Legion BranchWhitstable Royal British Legion Branch to a special assembly where they presented us with an official Affiliation certificate. Our children were 'Ready, Respectful and Responsible' and interesed to find out more about the work of the RBL. We are proud to work alongside the Royal British Legion and strengthen our community links. We look forward to our next linked event.
We are about to launch our exciting new project to make our playtimes even better, in conjunction with Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL). The project has already started in that staff have had initial training and the children have been introduced to the concept of OPAL play. At this point, we are in the process of collecting resources to launch OPAL PLAY here at Joy Lane. The intention is that it will change the way we think and how we play together and will enable us to maximise the space we have here at Joy Lane. We have set up a Wish List, as well as including a catalogue of smaller items the school are seeking to help implement this scheme within our school community. The sooner we do this, the sooner the children will be able to play with the items! Any contribution, however big or small, will be greatly received by the school staff - and of course the children! https://www.joylane.kent.sch.uk/attachments/download.asp?file=598&type=pdf Mark Ashley Jones Head of School Joy Lane Primary School
